Summertime and Summertime Projects

Summer is here, and along with that comes the heat, muggy heat and gnats. I will not focus on that instead I will turn my mind to my summer goals.
Hmmm, perhaps attending the Writers meetup that I joined during the spring, to get mentoring and support for my new project. Flash fiction writing or micro writing as some call it, is a genre of interest, I think I can do well in. Found a site that publishes flash fiction on a web postcard, I like what I have read on the site so far.
There are other meetup.com groups that look good, a professional blogging group and a few social activity groups pertaining to food and wine tours and painting classes and movie going. I did join the Nerd Herd meetup group for those who love Star Wars, Star Trek, comics, movies and such, attended one event for the newest Star Trek movie, Star Trek: Into Darkness. It was a good night, met new people and enjoyed the movie.

Star Trek: Into Darkness- I give it four stars out of five. Would I see it again? Yes I would and I have, loved it.

Wizard Comic Con 2013

I've been thinking about attending the Philadelphia Wizard Con this year. Last year I came close, I was going to go with a fantasy reading meetup group from Meetup.com but money issues got in the way. So I've been  on my favorite graphic novel Elfquest's Facebook page recently, looking into where it's artist Wendy Pini will be. I wrote a post about wishing she and her ex-husband Richard Pini would be attending Philly Wizard Con and LOW AND BEHOLD Wendy aka ElfMom wrote back about the attendance at PWCC  and said I should stay tuned....EEEEE!!!!

My Favorite Quote (devotion)

" You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you. That's where I'll be waiting" ~ Tinkerbell   ("Peter Pan" by J.M. Barrie)

On swift sail flaming
From storm and south
He comes, pale vampire
Mouth to my mouth

James Joyce (Ulysses)

Snow White and The Huntsman..love the words to this beautiful song in the movie.

"Dark the stars and dark the moon. Hush the night and the morning gloom. Tell the horses and beat on your drum. Gone their master, gone their son. Dark the oceans dark the sky. Hush the whales and the ocean tide. Tell the salt marsh and beat on your drum. Gone their master gone their son. Dark to light and light to dark. Three black carriages, three white carts. What brings us together is what pulls us apart. Gone our brother gone our heart. Hush the whales and the ocean tide. Tell the salt marsh and beat on your drum. Gone their master, gone their son."

Excerpts from Blog Sexier on Blogging

Hmmm...I am going to do this.

How To Freewrite

So how to access this power? It’s so easy even I can teach it to you. I’ll give you the TL;DR version first.
  1. Hammer your keyboard, writing whatever comes to mind for ten minutes. Don’t correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, anything.
  2. If you can’t think of anything more to write, keep writing anyway. You must write for the full ten minutes. Rip it out of yourself.
  3. When your timer rings, save and close the document.
  4. 24 hours later, come back with a fresh set of eyes for your editing.
Still with me? Now I’ll explain each step in detail, and why it’s important.

The Hammering

In freewriting, it’s important to write as close to the speed of thought as possible. Allow your creative brain to completely take over, while making your inner editor subordinate and passive. This is accomplished by typing as fast as possible and without correcting. Don’t use that backspace key!
If you run out of things to type, too bad. You’ve got to keep typing, even if it’s garbage. Your brain hates wasting its energy in this way, so it can come up with your most brilliant ideas when you think you’ve nothing more to say. Here’s a direct quote from a recent freewriting exercise.
“BLOG BLOG BLOG BLOG DAMMIT WHY WON’T YOU BLOOG!”
Timing yourself during this process is critical. If writing a novel is a marathon, freewriting is a sprint. I find ten minutes works best. Use a kitchen timer, oven timer, or download a free timer from the internet. I use the free Orzeszek Timer with the Star Wars Cantina music as my alarm.
