Holiday Dreams and Birthday Blues

So..its Thanksgiving today and my birthday is coming up in a few days. I am on my own for turkey day, but cool with it; leaves me with more me time. I am happy for the holiday season to be here, because I love this time of year, but with that comes my birthday in between. I don't have much family in which to visit and celebrate the holiday cheer; they all have their own families. I figure one day I will have my own family and I will create my own traditions and live it up with holiday cheer. As a distraction I will go to the cinema, perhaps on the dreaded birthday with my best friend Delaina. The Twilight saga: New Moon movie looks good, I loved the Twilight Saga books, I need to get a gift for myself too maybe I'll buy the Star Trek DVD as a b-day gift. I was looking at what new on itunes and noticed the Susan Boyle cd is available, never watched the music show that she was on, but then who needed to with all of the media coverage. I listened to the sample of "Wild Horses" and found it to be a beautiful rendition. I discovered Owl City's "Fireflies" and "Hello Seattle"  its different but I like it, really love whimsy in life and music. Owl City's music is oddly perky and offbeat, but imaginative music chases away the moody blues so I'll go with.

Meetup.com

There is a cool site that I have signed up on, Meetup.com. I think that its such a great social networking site, where people actually sign up for events that interest them. They met once a month to talk about or go to events about the interest.There are meetups for fans;such as fans of t.v. shows, comic books,cupcakes,SyFy shows, hiking,wine and food and movies..etc or hang out and meet new people with the same interest in general. I was talking to some of my colleagues at work about about joining. I think a few are interested and willing to go to a few events. There are so many to choose from, this will be quite the undertaking.

Writing in real life.

I am here again, after a few months away to gain some perspective; on my life and the way I want to live. I have been developing my skills as a writer and pursuing opportunities to write online. I worked for blerp.com on a monthly contract basis, for a few months and that was alot of fun. The job assignment was to create blerps of comments on different online general news, fashion and celebrity news. Its very possible that I will reapply to work for them again. I now have a Examiner.com online column; celebrity style and I write about the different celebrity style trends and items that catch my eye. I like covering the items that the other examiners are not reporting on. Fresh and different content ideas are important, as to stand out from the others. There is so much potential for me as a writer, I am excited to continue developing this new venture. I want to acquire a blogging position on a site to write about what I enjoy which is writing and learning about celebrity fashion, beauty, luxury items. I think that all this is great for building an online writing portfolio and ultimately being able to support myself with writing.

Celebrity Fashion Watch

Whenever I go to the hair salon or Laundromat, I make a beeline for the stacks of magazines; they are usually thrown in a corner on a table or near the window. I happily peruse the array of celebrity gossip, fashion and beauty offerings. This is a joyful hobby of mine; to live for an hour or so vicariously, through a glamorous celeb's beauty and fashion triumphs and faux pas.
It is a wonder to see how some celebrities transform themselves; not always for the better but, who has cornered the market on fashion perfection? Anyway, some are able to change from just plain looking, going to Whole Foods to shop. Presto! like magic change to walking down the red carpet of a movie premiere with astounding results.
There are those who confess to utilizing the expertise of a stylist and those gifted few who can go it alone and impress. Halle Berry always looks fantastic on or off the red carpet. I love this womon's sense of style from everyday wear and nights out working the premieres. Few dress better than Ms Berry and lets not forget, her recent pregnancy,she just blew all comers out of the fashion pool. Others I admire are Kim Kardashian, Dita Von Teese, Jessica Biel and Jennifer Lopez to name a few, and let us not forget the men.
I totally melt at the sight of Brad Pitt , George Clooney and Fashionisto Justin Timberlake, whose William Rast line is raging right now. Celeb fashion watching is a guilty pleasure that gives a special glow to my days,which are filled with not as much glamorous eventing as I would like.Finding and folding matching pairs of socks? Not so glam.

A Breaking Dawn

It has been a dark and stormy 2009, for me and almost everyone I know. American life has become a raging sea of layoffs, stock market struggles, criminal misconduct , roiling anger and heartbreaking familial losses.
This has been a time, that requires a steadfast and stout heart; that will not accept defeat. I have declared, the mere whiff of failure in thought or speech, forbidden. A plan of action is in order. I have searched through the abilities that I have, the hobbies I love, to resurrect my life anew.
I have been a writer of poetry for most of my life, and had work published in my Alma Mater's literary magazine, as well as on Poetry.com. In recent times, I decided to become a freelance writer. I gloriously obtained a contract job; writing web content for Blerp.com. I enjoy it immensely and realized that I love sharing my opinion, interests and tastes with the public at large. I have decided to research avenues of employment in freelance writing and in doing so discovered the field of commercial and business copy writing. New opportunities abound in these avenues.

I believe this will be the start of something golden.
